For weeks, radio airwaves throughout California have been bombarded with advertising from former E-bay CEO Meg Whitman in her Republican bid for Governor of the golden state. While she has every right to advertise on a variety of well known conservative talk show programs, her presentation to these listeners, in my opinion, is disingenuous. Whitman is spending millions on advertising on some of the biggest conservative ‘talker’ shows in the nation (i.e. Limbaugh, Hannity, Prager, Medved, Hedgecock, and Hewitt). Whitman parades herself as a conservative by appealing for a return to fiscal sanity in a state that currently faces a huge budget shortfall. By hearing her ads on conservative talk radio, don’t assume as a listener, that this candidate for Governor (CA.) leans to the right on the majority of other issues. To the contrary, this is far from the case.

In Whitman’s ads on conservative AM radio, the former executive talks about state government working with the private sector, not against it. She talks about stream lining government. Yet her theme of getting state government to cooperate (and work) with business runs contrary to her own environmental beliefs. Like liberal Democrats in the state’s legislature, Republican Whitman has no immediate intention of freeing up the huge oil reserves (estimated around 18 billion barrels) off the California coast.

The exploration of these reserves would bring in thousands of much needed jobs to California as well as new tax revenue to the state. With a projected 26 billion dollar deficit looming later this year, does this seem imprudent? Politicians such as Whitman ‘may’ appear to give consideration to opening up oil reserves. But it’s more likely that Whitman isn’t committed enough to oppose the state’s powerful environmental lobby.

Perhaps, what is most disturbing is Whitman’s intentional targeting of an audience who listen regularly to radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dennis Prager, Hugh Hewitt, Roger Hedgecock and Michael Medved. All these ‘talkers’ espouse a conservative philosophy and, for the most part, so do a vast majority of their audience. By repeatedly delivering her message of fiscal prudence as well as promises to fix schools and state government, it gives the illusion that Whitman is a conservative too. This being said - it is far from the truth.

Whitman is unabashedly pro-abortion, and pro-gun control (LA Times). She even has no problem supporting someone such as communist sympathizer Van Jones (see video). Having Whitman as Governor would be like another four years of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Like many registered Republicans, I am sick and tired of RINO (Republican in name only) candidates. I am hoping that conservatives around the country will take over the reins of the party. Perhaps, that is why the primary elections are so important.

Primary elections this year must send a clear message to the Republican party establishment in Washington DC - no more RINOs! Perhaps that is why John McCain’s re-election bid in Arizona is in jeopardy with the challenge by former Republican congressman JD Hayworth. In Florida, Charlie Crist’s bid for a US Senate seat is in jeopardy by Republican conservative challenger Mark Rubio.

Sadly, in California, there is no Republican conservative running for the Governor’s office. Come November, there should be at least one conservative on the ballot - but as an Independent. Her name is Chelene Nightingale. She is the only conservative Christian, to my knowledge, running for that statewide office.
